Kitten Fur perfume? On sale?

Referral Link

HauteLook has Demeter fragrances on sale right now, including Kitten Fur. Has anyone smelled this in the wild (pun intended)? Actual kitten fur smells good to me as a certified crazy cat lady, but I feel like separating that smell from a physical cat could be gross. Some of their other odd scents are also included in the sale, like Dirt, Jelly Donut, and Paperback. Hmmmm.

Here's a photo of my foster kitty, Lucia, just because:

TheBalm on HauteLook 40-50% off

Referral Links

TheBalm seems to be the only sale on HauteLook that inspires me these days. They have so many random brands. But they have a bunch of palettes for 50% off and I've really been wanting the Balm Appetit one. Ugh, stupid no buy. There's also the Meet Matte Trimony (oh god they have the stupidest non-puns, because doesn't a pun have to have a DOUBLE meaning, not just one meaning and something that makes no sense?). A big selection, in fact, including their liquid lipsticks, which I've heard are good. Personally, I've tried a lot of different products from this brand and liked everything except the concealer.

When you buy makeup from HauteLook, shipping is about $6 and you have to wait a couple of weeks for your order, fyi.

(They also have sales on Alterna and Kevyn Aucoin, if you're interested.)

Lots of K-Beauty on HauteLook today (up to 55% off)

Referral Links

Supposed to be up to 55% off (but maybe some of you know if these things can be found cheaper elsewhere). Brands include Club Clio, Peri Pera, Soo Ae, Goodal, and Freeset. I kind of want to try the Donkey Milk masks only because Cleopatra and other famously rich and beautiful ancient women used ass's milk in their skin care routines--and some of the ingredients they used seem to have been actually pretty effective. I'll write about that one of these days on my other blog. According to the packaging, donkey's milk has a lot of Omega 6, but I've never researched the purpose or effectiveness of Omega 6 in skin care.

(GUESS WHAT I'M SUPPOSED TO BE GRADING RIGHT NOW STILL.)

TheBalm 40-50% off on HauteLook

Disclosure: Referral links.
When I want something from TheBalm, I wait for it to reappear on HauteLook, as they do several times a year, rather than trying to take part in their biannual 50% off sales. (Was it the usual clusterfuck last time? I didn't pay attention.) So here you go. They even have that Meet Matte(e) Trimony eyeshadow palette that everyone has been cooing over on sale for half price. If you can wear reddish eyeshadow, go for it (I can't). TheBalm has the worst, most nonsensical puns, but they do make good makeup in my experience. Anything tempting you from this sale?

I am finally getting into the groove of my new job, so I should be able to resume blogging with some kind of regularity. (That may be a total lie. Time will tell.)

Lipstick Queen is on HauteLook (40-50% off)

Disclosure: Referral links.
I know I've been posting about HauteLook a lot lately, but they've had some good stuff. It seems like they will go weeks or months with mostly generic crap, and then have a bunch of interesting brands all at once. (OCC is still on the site if you what to go for that too.) Anyway, Lipstick Queen this week. I've only tried Jean Queen and didn't like it, but somehow I am still intrigued, because so many people seem to like their products. Any recommendations from this sale? I will skip the gimmicky color-changing crap, but it's not included in the sale anyway.

(Actually the annoying thing about this sale is that they have all kinds of things included in the promo/header photo that are not actually available in the sale.)

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics and TheBalm are on HauteLook (about 50% off)

Disclosure: Referral links.
I said that I would post a reminder about OCC on HauteLook today, so here it is. The sale includes the Lip Tars in their new packaging for 40-50% off (as sets). TheBalm is still there too, in case you want to double up your ~$6 shipping. A bunch of palettes etc.

(Stay tuned, because I plan to finally post swatches/review of my Makeup Geek eyeshadows later today.)

TheBalm is on HauteLook today

Disclosure: Referral links.
HauteLook is usually the best place to buy TheBalm products, in my experience, if they have what you're looking for. Most things are at least 50% off, which is the same as their annual sale, during which their website crashes EVERY TIME. Like how have they not figured that out yet? It's been going on for years. Rant aside, so long as you are willing to wait a couple of weeks for your stuff to ship, HauteLook is the way to go here. I've really enjoyed the eyeshadows, blushes, lip stain, and highlighters I've tried from TheBalm, but I haven't had such good luck with the base products (tinted moisturizer and concealer).

On Friday, they will also have Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, if you want to wait to double up your shipping and take your chances that what you want will still be available (I'll remind you).

K-Beauty all this week on HauteLook

Disclosure: Referral links.
This week HauteLook has a bunch of Korean beauty brands on sale. Yesterday TonyMoly started ( and it's still going), today Club Clio/PeriPera has been added, and tomorrow they will also have The Face Shop--in addition to a few other brands, all week. To me, this is interesting because there's aren't any nearby stores where I can shop for these products. Shipping on beauty products from HL is usually about $6, so it will go further if you're in the market for more than one thing, obviously. See anything there you'd recommend?

Unrelated, but I had to take my computer in for repairs AGAIN, so I don't know if I will be able to post anything photo-heavy this week. Maybe on the weekend, if I get it back by then. I have a big backlog of reviews I'd like to write!

TheBalm is 50% off on HauteLook

This is the best way to buy TheBalm in my experience. There is a big selection, including palettes and highlighters and other popular things, and most things are at least 50% off. It beats trying to use the brand's own website during their 50% off sale, because it always crashes. Shipping is $5.95 (or free over $100).

You need an account to browse HauteLook, so here is my invite link.

LORAC, Deborah Lippmann, and philosophy on HauteLook today

Disclosure: Referral link.
Discounts range from 20-80% off. The DL polishes are $7 a bottle. I keep thinking I should get one of those LORAC eyeshadow palettes that everyone is always raving about, but I still haven't done it. Anything look good to you?

Is HauteLook cheaper than Nordstrom Rack?

Disclosure: Referral/affiliate links.
In case you weren't aware, Nordstrom owns HauteLook, and the Nordstrom Rack and HauteLook websites are linked. So I was curious: when a brand that is ordinarily available on the Nordstrom Rack site appears on HauteLook (i.e. for a limited time, since HauteLook flash sales are up for only a few days), is the HauteLook price cheaper than the regular Nordstrom Rack discount? Born shoes, which is one of my favorite brands, is on HL today. NR always has Born in their shoe section, so yesterday I checked out the prices. I made a note of the prices of two ankle boots that I liked: "Lyra" for $59.97 and "Anissa" for $79.97.

Today, the same shoes that were listed on NR are available on HL (and gone from the NR site). The prices on HL are the same as they were on NR yesterday. So the moral of the story is: if you see something you want on the Nordstrom Rack site, there's probably no point waiting for it to come up on HauteLook. The price will most likely be the same.

I hope that makes sense. I wanted to figure it out for myself, so I figured I might as well share.

Unfortunately, NR doesn't have beauty products on its website, or I wouldn't have to use HL at all.

(Note: I'm not sure that the prices in store at Nordstrom Rack are necessarily the same as on their website. Does anyone know?)

My sale shopping philosophy (and TheBalm on HauteLook for 50% off)

Disclosure: Affiliate/referral links.
I've been thinking about going back to posting more sales/deals around here, since that was something I did a lot when I first started my blog. I've slacked off on that lately, because they're not as interesting to write up as reviews and other things, but sharing them was one of the things I wanted to do when I started blogging. I've also partly stopped blogging about them because there are other sources for that information (like Nouveau Cheap for drugstore sales, especially, but also others, and Temptalia for all the weekly deals available at the beginning of the week). I think what I'll do is just post sales that seem especially good or interesting to me (again, not 20% or less, off unless that's as good as it gets), or those that I don't see all over the place. I likely won't post deals that only last a few hours, because I'm not usually on the ball enough to do that.

In that spirit, let me point out that today TheBalm is on Hautelook, and almost everything is 50% off. The sale includes popular shit like eyeshadow palettes and their highlighters. There are two pages worth of stuff. It's pretty much everything. This is one of the best ways to buy TheBalm, in my experience. They usually have a 50% sale on their own site a couple of times a year, but the site always crashes from the heavy traffic, and the shipping can be really expensive. It makes much more sense just to buy it from HauteLook. Also worth noting is that Club Clio, a Korean brand, which makes PeriPera, is on HauteLook at the moment too. The orange tint water I reviewed here isn't in the sale, but there is a bunch of other stuff. Illamasqua is still up there, too.

It's been a HauteLook heavy week here, but that's because they've had some especially good sales. Now we'll probably go back to a few weeks of their selling nothing but diamond-infused face cream and celebrity fragrances. (No, nevermind, I see that Stila will be there on Monday, along with Bliss (barf), and ORLY. Still going strong, I guess.) But I'll post deals from other sources as they come up.

Here's the philosophy part: I don't want to give the impression that I buy something from every sale I post, or that I think anyone else needs to, either. But I am also someone who tries to never buy anything at full price (you may have noticed). That means almost no limited edition anything, unless I happen to have a store coupon, because I think long deliberation is much safer. I put things that interest me on a wish list (using Amazon), and I revisit it and delete things that I'm over periodically. If something has been on there for a month (or more realistically in most cases, 6+ months), and I still want it, and I happen to find a good deal, I might buy it. I rarely snatch something up immediately after hearing about it anymore, though there were a couple of years after I started my blog (and was slogging through my dissertation) that I got into that sort of habit. For a while, for example, I was on a "buy all the nail polishes" spree, with an urge to get one of every shade of every color in every finish, but that has long subsided, and now I am stuck with things I never use, like glitter or neons.

If, by the time a sale comes along, the thing I wanted is no longer available, I rarely have any regrets. It's not like a million other options won't present themselves in the near future. Even if I have pangs for a few weeks, a year later I certainly don't give a shit that I don't own that one particular eyeshadow, or whatever. Hesitation and patience is a much better tactic for me, these days.

It also helps that I buy most things online, rather than when browsing Sephora or Ulta or the drugstore in person. That cuts down on impulse purchases and lets me find the best price. (If/when I move back to Canada, I guess this will be more difficult.)

So it's in this spirit that I post about sales. I don't think you need to buy something today just because you don't own anything from TheBalm and it's on sale now. Geting something just because it's there won't make your life complete. But if, like me, you've been waiting for their tinted moisturizer or highlighter or whatever to go on sale for a while, and you are convinced you'll use it, now's a good time to get it. I'm not trying to be a complete enabler - I'm just trying to help you save money on things you might pick up anyway.

Do you have any sale shopping tricks to share? Help us all to be cheap, please!

Some interesting HauteLook beauty sales this week (Rouge Bunny Rouge, Butter London, Japonesque, Illamasqua, etc.)

I know I post a lot of HauteLook alerts around here, but it's because seem to be the most consistent source of deals on interesting makeup and skin care brands that are hard to find on sale elsewhere. I've always had good luck ordering from HL - knowing that it will take a few weeks to get my order, at least. Shipping for beauty stuff is usually about $6. If you've had any bad experiences, however, please feel free to vent in the comments here. It's worth sharing that information. Also please share where you get deals on brands like these, if you have any exciting sources that I have been neglecting! Like more than 20% off, which I don't consider a serious deal. 20% off is better than nothing, but that's about it.

Right now, Rouge Bunny Rouge is on HL. I reviewed an eyeshadow recently and concluded that it was very nice, but not exciting enough to pay full price for. Unfortunately the HL sale only gives you 24% off the eyeshadow singles, though some of the other products are up to 60% off. I'm not sure there are a lot of other opportunities to get RBR on sale, so it might be worth it for you.

Some other brands currently on HL are Koh Gen Do, Morphe, and Embryolisse, among other things. Tomorrow (Monday) Algenist, Japonesque, and Butter London will be added (and some of the others will disappear). Tuesday we'll get Illamasqua and pur~lisse as well.

You need an account to browse HauteLook, so you can use my invite link if you want to.

Anything sound good? I got a couple of fucking gorgeous Butter London polishes (posted on Instagram here) the last time around for $7.50 each, which is the usual sale price (50% off), but I think I am finished acquiring nail polish for the time being.

Urban Decay is on HauteLook right now (eyeshadow palettes! primer potion! lip crayons! etc.!)

It's actually a pretty interesting, if small selection. Almost everything is 50% off. $10 for a tube of Primer Potion is decent! I've used Eden in the past, and it was one of my favorites (reviewed here).

You need an account to browse HauteLook, so here's my invite link, if you want to use it.

theBalm is on HauteLook today (~50% off)

Disclosure: This post contains a referral link.
I said I would be procrastinating and so I'd remind you. They've got the eyeshadow palettes, highlighters, lushes, all of it. I am really tempted to just get one of the tinted moisturizers, since I've been having a terrible time finding one I like (I'll post about this process soon), and the "Lighter Than Light" shade of theBalm's concealer is a good match for me. Anyone tried their "Balm Shelter" tinted moisturizer? Should I go for it? I am hesitant, but I don't remember them being included in other recent HL sales of theBalm, so maybe I should pull the trigger while I can. Hmmmm. (Maybe throw an Illamasqua nail polish in there . . . . no!)

"Makeup Mayhem" on HauteLook this week (50%+ off Tarina Tarantino, Illamasqua, theBalm, LORAC, etc.)

Disclosure: This post contains referral links.
So this week HauteLook is having their big makeup feature. Most things look like they are 50% off or more. We've got BH Cosmetics (meh), Tarina Tarantino (good lipstick, eyeliner, and eyeshadow - avoid the "eye dream hyperlight" for its horrible packaging) - and later this week LORAC (Wednesday), Illamasqua (Thursday), and theBalm (Friday). I've bought all of my theBalm makeup through HauteLook, since it's always been at least 50% off. They tend to have a wide selection including most of their new products. This is also one of the only places Illamasqua is currently sold in North America, unless I am mistaken and they've returned to some other stores recently.

You have to take into account the shipping costs (usually about $6 for beauty stuff) and the long shipping time (2-3 weeks). Obviously your shipping will go farthest if you buy multiple things at once, so if you want to shop more than one brand, it might be worth waiting until they are both available at the same time. Usually each brand stays on the site for about 4 days, but some of the most popular items might sell out.

I don't need anything right now, so I'm not looking too closely. Normally I would be all over this. Think of me if you get something good? I will post reminders about Illamasqua and theBalm, because I am grading this week, and blogging is an excellent form of procrastination.

You need an account to browse HauteLook, so I've included my referral link above, but you are of course not obligated to click it.

Rouge Bunny Rouge is on HauteLook again!

Disclosure: This post contains a referral link.
I don't need any more fucking eyeshadow. I don't need any more fucking eyeshadow. I don't need any more fucking eyeshadow. I don't need any more fucking eyeshadow. I don't need any more fucking eyeshadow.

Or do I?

Stila on HauteLook + Blog Sale update

I figured that I would combine these two topics, in case anyone is sick of hearing about the blog sale (skip to the next paragraph in that case). Rest assured, this will be my last post about it. I'm moving in a week, so anything not sold by then will be packed up and dealt with some time in the distant(ish) future. I'll take the blog sale down at that point. But I just wanted to mention that I reduced the prices of a lot of stuff today, and I also added a few new things (check at the end of the makeup section under "Not Pictured"). As usual, no bargaining please, but do feel free to stock up on the free stuff.

I also thought I'd point out that Stila is on HauteLook again (invite link). It pops up fairly regularly but not always with the same items. This time there are some nice looking lip and cheek palettes for $8, and a 4-piece Kitten collection for $12. Not bad! The Laura Geller sale (invite link) is still there too, in case you want to maximize your ~$6 shipping charge.

I'm going to write up a quick e.l.f. lip stain review later this afternoon, so stay tuned.

Nordstrom 16-Piece Beauty Bag $25 on Hautelook today

Disclosure: This post contains referral links.
Oh, hi, here I am. And it's a HauteLook post. Sorry. I fully intend to post something more substantial later today, but I've been trying to be productive in the rest of my life and all that crap. Anyway, I've heard some people are excited about this bag full of goodies, so I thought I'd post it in case you might be one of them. Brands in the bag include Stila, LORAC, Fresh, Smashbox, Philosophy, Lancome, Clinique, Mario Badescu, etc. and you get 15 items plus the bag itself. There's also a Diptyque sale on HL right now, in case you want to add some absurdly fancy candles or perfume to your order.

Shipping should be about $6, and usually takes a week or two from HauteLook. Either this bag will sell out in a matter of hours, or it will be back for half price a month from now. It's always a bit of a gamble.

Sales and stuff

Disclosure: This post contains referral links.
Well, it's a holiday here in America, and that means things go on sale. On HauteLook, we have a "Beauty Essentials" sale that includes a lot of makeup brushes, some Tweezerman tweezers, and a bunch of things that are decidedly not essential, like bra carrying cases that looks like bras (?), and those needle roller things for your face (heeeelllllllll no).

In less terrifying news, the Home Shopping Network has a $20 off code for new customers. I've never bought anything from HSN, so I can't say much about what it's like, but this deal was recommended to me by Dayana in an email, and I've heard about it elsewhere too. There are some interesting looking Too Faced sets on HSN that you could use it with. I'm not sure what the limits of the code are, but, for example, the Natural Eye Collection (comes with a primer) is on for $30 with free shipping, so if you use the code 20NEWSPRING, you might be able to get it for $10. Let me know if you try it. For some reason I can't get the HSN cart to load so I can test it out. My internet is being fucky this morning.

There are lots of other sales, and if anything in particular stands out to me, I'll post about it. For now, let me direct you to Nouveau Cheap's always useful sale roundup.

Have a nice Fourth of July weekend, Americans! Others, too, but with less patriotism and fireworks, probably.
