Brightest Bulb in the Box is my latest favorite makeup blog. She breaks things down with MATH and SCIENCE to tell you if the shit you're buying is worth it. Plus she has a pretty foul mouth. What more could I ask? In this post, she gives you a ton of advice for getting the beauty products you want for a good price. But I encourage you to browse, because she has a lot of gems.
(But she has some kind of witchcraft going on, because when she subjects lipsticks to her "4 hours and a meal" test, they almost all pass. When I put lipsticks through a "half an hour and a sip of water" test, they almost always fail. I must have slippery lips.)
It's entirely possible that she is wearing a lip primer under her lipsticks, which improves wear, and prevents lipstick migration. Also, when you are a lipstick Fanatic (tm), you learn how to eat foods very carefully and daintily so you don't smear lipstick everywhere. We also don't know what a "meal" is, as certain foods (salads, soups, cereal) are more lippy friendly than say, a cheeseburger.
ReplyDeleteI love the Too Faced lip primer. It's one of the products I have not found a cheap alternative too. And yes, I'm guessing there must be some kind of special technique involved. Full disclosure: I am a lip-licker and chewer too, so lipstick really never stands a chance with me.
Delete"to" I mean.
DeleteBlogger in question! I don't wear any primers or liners or anything for lipstick wear tests because it seems like it ends up testing the primer more than the lipstick.
DeleteThe meals vary a lot. :)
I think different people have different levels of luck with lipstick wear-time unfortunately, and I'm not sure what the predictive factors are. I may have to make a survey and run a regression sometime!
Thanks! I'm okay with my lipstickless existence, but I am always amazed when people can make it work so well. But yes, that would make an interesting post!
DeleteTry a clear lip pencil. There are several prestige brands that make clear liners (MUFE, Laura Mercier, etc), but a cursory Google search showed that mass brands like e.l.f. and Maybelline carry clear liners. The idea is that you apply this all over your lip, and outside your natural lipline, and it helps prevent your lipstick from smearing/feathering.
ReplyDeleteI have one of those too! It's probably the compulsive lip licking/chewing more than anything. I'd have to get therapy for the sake of lipstick or something.
