Addendum to yesterday's perfect sunscreen post (yes, it mattifies)

Harley Quinn asked on yesterday's sunscreen postHow mattifying is it?

I don't remember ever having problems with shininess when I used this, but today I decided to put some on at about 4 pm when I was already a little oily from just sitting around all day with my skin doing what it does. Not only did it not make my face look any greasier, it got rid of most of the shine that was there. That makes sense, since it has a silicone base, which is what a lot of mattifying primers are made of, though this is a thin liquid rather than a gel.

The silicone is also one of the things that makes it so wonderful to apply. I can just slide it over my whole face in a matter of seconds. It's slippery, and that makes putting on sunscreen so much less of a chore. Impatience is basically one of the top factors in deciding whether I like something or not. This is fucking quick and easy.

I swear I don't work for a sunscreen company or anything. I just really like this shit.

ETA: The mattifying effect didn't last more than a few hours on my oilyish skin without any powder or anything else on top of it. It went back to normal eventually. But that isn't its primary function, of course.

  1. Do you wear this along with moisturizer? I;ve always stuck to wearing moisturizers with spf just because I could never figure out which to put on first.

    1. I don't have very dry skin, so I don't wear moisturizer on a daily basis. If my face feels dry, I use it, but that almost never happens in the summer. But I wear sunscreen in the winter too, in which case, the sunscreen goes on top of the moisturizer. You should wait a little while for the moisturizer to absorb, though, or it will dilute the sunscreen. Sunscreen should always be the last thing you put on in your skincare routine before your makeup so that nothing interferes with it. It makes sense, because if you rubbed something else on top of it, you might end up with an uneven application. (I'm getting all this from the Paula's Choice people.)

I find that this sunscreen makes my skin feel a little softer, but I don't know if it has any moisturizing properties, or if that's just the smooth texture of it. I think that this is light enough to wear in addition to moisturizer, though, if anything is, since it isn't creamy.

  2. I'm pretty excited to try this. Currently using the Paula's Choice mattifying moisturizer, and while I do like how mattifying it is on my super dupes oily skin, I hate the grittiness, and the price tag. THANKS, TOOTS!

    1. I don't think that this stuff will mattify as well as something that is designed to do so, but it will be better than most other sunscreens, and better than nothing. But if you have really oily skin, you'll probably want to add some powder or something to absolutely kill it. Hope it works for you!

    1. Just spray it into the palm of your hand and then apply it like you normally would. Works fine!
