Is Sinful Colors nail polish ($2) better quality than Chanel ($27)?

That's what this Consumer Reports test determined, at least in terms of wear time. I guess they just tested one color from each brand though? There are usually significant differences within each line, in my experience. I guess it's enough to show that higher price does not necessarily guarantee a better product (shocking!).

Meanwhile, I've never had a nail polish last more than 4 days, no matter what combination of products I use, and I think even that has only happened once or twice.

  1. I own a bunch of Sinful Colors polishes (so cheap!) and they really vary from color to color in terms of quality. C'mon now, Consumer Reports. I know you can do better.

    1. Yes it doesn't show much other than that cheap is not necessarily terrible!

  2. The fact that the quality of nail polish has almost nothing to do with the price point is why I just don't spend more then 12 bucks on a bottle of nail polish. And even that is pushing it, so the color has to be amazing. I have loved many a bottle of 2 dollar nail polish and found more then a few bottles of the midrange stuff to be crap.

    1. Ditto! I think I've almost never spent more than five.

  3. As someone who owns many Sinful Colors polishes and no Chanel polishes--or any polish more expensive than Essie or OPI--I still think this is stupid. Nail polish is about more than lasting time, as we all know. What about the formula, ease of application, streakiness factor, color depth/complexity, etc.? I also agree with Rebecca that it varies from color to color and also from collection to collection. Yes, I agree expensive doesn't necessarily mean better, but the Consumer Reports' story is simplistic.

    1. Agreed. Plus Chanel is notoriously chippy. It would be more informative with more brands etc.

  4. Ugh it's annoying that there is a typo in this post, but I'll have to wait until I'm not on my phone to fix it. Grrrr.

  5. I like sinful colors for cheap thrills.. some color formulas are better than others, but the one consistently yuck thing about them is that they really bleed through my base coat and stain the ISH out of my nails. I think they're crazy voodoo poison, hence winning over Chanel, but I'll still buy them when I want to try a new color. The Consumer Reports "study" was obviously written by a man.
