About this blog: What's worth spending money on and what's not, and how to get good deals on the things that are. Plus info and rants about the science behind cosmetics ingredients, beauty culture bullshit, marketing shenanigans, gender and femininity, and occasional basic makeup/skincare/hair tips for the lazy and/or incompetent.
(Formerly known as Cheap as F*ck.)
About my beauty blogging style and goals: I strive always to be honest in my reviews, even if I'm only occasionally brutal.
I am not someone who buys every new makeup release. I'm not a collector interested in completeness. I don't look for luxury in my beauty products. Packaging is secondary to product. Form after function. While I enjoy experimenting with makeup and skincare products and I appreciate beautiful things, above all else I expect functionality from my purchases. I want a product to do what it's supposed to do, what it claims to do. That's how I evaluate things. In my experience, there are good and bad products at all price points. Cost doesn't determine quality. I don't expect to have to spend a lot of money to get something that works. I also don't expect that just because I spent a lot of money, something will work.
About me: I'm a Canadian ex-pat living in the U.S. I'm in my mid-30s, with pale, combination/oily skin that isn't particularly sensitive but has hormonal breakouts on occasion. Anything else you need to know, I will try to include in my reviews.
Please always feel free to let me know (via comment or email at brutalhonestbeauty@gmail.com) if you have any questions or recommendations.
