Here is what is happening to the Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks

Disclosure: Affiliate links.
Refinery 29 has a post all about the newly formulated and repacked lipsticks from Urban Decay, including 74 new shades in 6 finishes. They will launch in June. If you didn't like the flat/round shape of the Revolution lipsticks, you might like the more traditional bullets in the new ones. They will also be slightly cheaper, at $17 each rather than $22.

If you were a big fan of the Revolution formula and are worried about the change, most shades are still available for 50% off ($11) on the Ulta website (regular, matte, and sheer). They seem to be all or mostly sold out from Sephora and Urban Decay's site. Ulta also has free shipping with a $35 purchase right now (no code), which makes it less painful to order form them. Plus there are three free minis that you can add to your order (via Nouveau Cheap): a Dr. Brandt mask, a BareMinerals mascara, and a Redken hair "cleanser." Just add them to your cart with the purchase of something else and they will be free.

ETA: Macy's has an even larger selection still in stock, if there's something you want that's missing from Ulta.

I had made up my mind that I didn't need any new lipsticks, but now that I know for sure these are going away, I am tempted again. I was thinking about Rapture, 69, and After Dark. Anyone have any opinions about those shades? Or others that are worthwhile?

  1. That's temping! I seriously don't need any more make up, though...

  2. Rapture is my go-to professional lipstick! Highly recommend. 69 is a gorgeous red in a very comfortable formula, but I kind of regret buying it because it's so hard (though not impossible) to apply without a lip brush. If that's not an issue for you, I'd recommend it, but there are lots of similar reds out there.

I shudder to think of the amount of time I'll spend choosing my first Vice lipstick. 100?! That's WAY too many at once. I wonder why the price will be lower--smaller size, maybe, or cheaper packaging?

    1. I hate using lip brushes so maybe I will skip 69. That and I already have enough reds that I never wear. But Rapture, hmmm . . .

The packaging on the vice ones looks similar, but maybe the size will be smaller. I can't imagine them reducing the price without taking something away. Unless they think they will sell more and volume will make up for it?

  3. Wow... 100 shades. Guess we'll be seeing load sof very similar colours like the Audacious lipsticks.

I'm glad they decided to consolidate everything though. I was having trouble remembering say, which line (matte or normal) Rapture came from and spent a very long time at Sephora looking at the wrong display, lol. It's nice they did 6 finishes, I'm sure the metallic ones will be popular!

    1. There seem to be some unusual shades like blues and greens. I'm glad trends are branching out into more non-matte finishes. I like matte, but I like variety more.

  4. I was thinking about getting a few more UD Revolution lipsticks since they've gone on sale for $11 and especially now that they'll be discontinuing the old packaging. I figured I'd still have some time to wait for the Ulta Beauty Break http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2303428&productId=xlsImpprod13881161 to snag even more bonus goodies. Also, 2x points since it's my birthday month. Gotta get them points, too! And Ebates is having 3% cashback right now.

I ended up getting the shades in Naked, Rapture, and Venom. To get free shipping, I threw in the Essence Eyebrow Gel. I hope this works better than the Rimmel one. It flaked within just a couple hours of applying!

I added over $50 worth of items in my cart, removed some, and was still able to get the Beauty Break with my $35.99 purchase, yay! :)

I'm a little late in the game when it comes to the UD Revolution lipsticks so it was nice to build up a collection while these "old" ones are on sale. It's great that UD is bringing back some older shades with the relaunch, but I do prefer the current packaging. Not a deal breaker, though.

  5. I thought about picking up a few shades, but then I remember how much I hate that damned round bullet! I have two Revolution lipsticks already and don't wear them that often because after the first couple uses, the edges wear down and it's so hard to apply neatly without a lip brush. So glad they're bringing these back with a standard bullet shape.
